Primer registro del orden Tantulocarida Boxshall y Lincoln, 1983 (Crustacea) en aguas profundas del Caribe colombiano

Resumen

Se registra por primera vez la presencia de crustáceos del orden Tantulocarida en el mar Caribe. Los organismos recolectados se encontraron parasitando a un cumáceo del género Eudorellla y a dos tanaidáceos del género Tanaella, profundidades entre 2 420 y 2 786 m de profundidad. Los organismos provienen de muestreos de la comunidad bentónica realizados en la ecorregión Caribe Oceánico (COC), en un área de interés para exploración de hidrocarburos. Los organismos se analizaron en laboratorio con microscopio óptico y estereoscopio; se tomaron fotografías y se realizaron diagramas para describir los principales caracteres morfológicos y morfométricos. En total se encontraron cuatro tantulocáridos, de los cuales uno era macho y las demás hembras sexuales. Debido a la especificidad parásito-hospedero y a que no hay reportes del orden en la región del Mar Caribe, es muy probable que los especímenes
colectados sean nuevas especies para la ciencia
