Review Process
1. Authors must register on the platform to obtain a username and password and upload the manuscript to the platform. The registration is done only once, so just by logging into your account you can see the status of your manuscript or submit a new one.
2. Together with the article or scientific note, please upload the submission letter in PDF format. Remember that the text must initially include the figures and tables in low resolution.
3. Once the document is uploaded, it is submitted to a preliminary review by the Assistant Editorial Committee. With his approval, an invitation is sent to the editorial committee and the manuscript is then assigned to a section editor.
4. The section editor defines whether the manuscript goes to peer review, whether it must be corrected before being evaluated, or whether it is rejected. When the manuscript is approved by the editor, it goes into peer review. If it is rejected, the authors receive an official communication of non-acceptance of the manuscript.
5. The evaluation process in the Bulletin of Marine and Coastal Research is carried out by expert peers in each of the topics covered by the journal and is done in a single-blind modality. Evaluators have 30 calendar days (counted from the moment they receive the invitation to evaluate through the platform) to send their assessments using the manuscript evaluation form. If they wish to make comments on the manuscript, they can do so with active change control and leaving comments in the margin, always anonymously.
6. Once the evaluations are received, the editor determines whether the manuscript is accepted for publication (with or without minimal changes), whether it requires minor or major changes, whether it should go into a new round of evaluation, or whether it is rejected. When the manuscript is approved by the editor, the authors receive an official communication of acceptance of the manuscript. If it is rejected, the authors receive an official communication of non-acceptance of the manuscript.
The evaluation process is single-blind. For research and review articles, an editorial concept with at least two evaluations is issued; for scientific notes, with at least one evaluation.
7. Once approved for publication, the editing, and production of the manuscript begins, which includes the phases of copyediting and proofreading, translation, layout, and galley proofs.
8. Online publishing and printing.
9. On-line diffusion and distribution of copies.
Note: At any part of the process, authors can view the status of their manuscript by logging in with their username and password to the platform. The editorial process can take about ten (10) months. However, it must be taken into account that the times depend directly on the actors involved in the process, that is, authors, editors, and peer reviewers.
