Abstract

The presence of the masked hamlet Hypoplectrus providencianus is documented for the first time in fringing reefs of the Santa Marta area and Tayrona National Natural Park (Colombian continental Caribbean). Based on several sightings and photographic records taken between 2005 and 2023, the known geographic distribution of the masked hamlet has extended within the Greater Caribbean from
the Central Province to the Southern Province, specifically on the coast of northwestern South America.
