Abstract

The gecarcinid crab Gecarcinus (Johngarthia) planatus is reported for the first time for Gorgona Island, extending its distributional range more than 3,200 km to the south. The zoogeography of the crab and the role of the California Current and the Ecuatorial Countercurrent in its distribution are discussed briefly.
