Abstract

The marine benthic vegetation in the Parque Nacional Tayrona litoral zone was studied during the rainy season (october-december, 1974), analysing the distribution of 13 0 algal and 3 phanerogamic species in three littoral subzone: supra, meso and infralittoral, and three types of habitats determined by substrate quality: rocky, rocky-sand and sandy-mud. Analysing the d'egree of endemism in each habitat, the rocky-sand type is considered intermediate in floristic composition. The degree of epiphytism found in different habitats is considered an adaptive response to a greater or lesser restriction in the available firm substrate in the area. By means of a similarity analysis (Jaccard index) it can be concluded that vegetation differences are strongly controlled by zonation and substrate type, although the former plays the major role.
